We all have that one recipe that transports us straight back to parties of old. You know the ones — where you tried to sneak into the adult conversations (and grab an appetizer or two while you were at it). This one has been passed between family and friends for years, and it always disappears in a flash. Cheesy, savory, and incredibly easy to put together, it’s the kind of party snack that never goes out of style.

Ingredients

  • 24 slices of cocktail rye bread
  • 6 slices bacon
  • 1/4 c. finely chopped green onion
  • 3/4 c. mayo
  • 1/2 c. Swiss cheese (shredded)
  • Tomato slices (optional)

Let’s Cook!

  • Toast bread slices for five minutes in a 350 degree oven.
  • Remove from oven, flip slices over.
  • Fry bacon until it’s cooked to your desired crispiness
  • Crumble the bacon, mix with onion, mayo, Swiss, pepper.
  • Place a slice of tomato on bread if used.
  • Spread bacon mix on bread.
  • Put under broiler until bubbling. (5-7 minutes)

Let them cool for a few minutes before serving — trust me, burning the roof of your mouth does not make for a festive party favor. Then watch them fly off the tray.

Make ahead tip: These can be assembled several hours in advance. Just place them on a cookie sheet and refrigerate until ready to broil and serve.
