Air Fryer Caramel Apple Crisp for One

Do you ever get the craving for something sweet and apparently you are the only one who shares that craving at the moment?

Well after a busy day of fall adventures, we settled in for dinner and I started staring at the basket of apples on the counter. My mind immediately went to doing something with puff pastry, but I didn’t have any thawed. So I decided to try pivoting to an apple crisp instead.

And let me tell you I’m glad I did!

Air Fryer Apple Crisp

A warm caramel apple crisp made for one, with tender cinnamon apples, a gooey layer of caramel and a buttery oat topping. It comes together in minutes and cooks right in the air fryer (perfect for those nights when you want dessert without making an entire dessert).
Course Dessert
Servings 1 person

Ingredients

Apple Base

  • 1 medium apple peeled if desired and diced
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 1-2 tbsp caramel dip or sauce (optional)

Crisp Topping

  • 2 tbsp old-fashioned oats
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp butter softened
  • 1 pinch cinnamon, nutmeg, and/or ginger
  • 1 pinch salt

Let’s Cook!

  • Soften the apple by adding the diced apple to a ramekin that's safe for both the microwave and the air fryer. Sprinkle with cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and brown sugar. Microwave for 60–90 seconds, just until the apple begins to soften.
  • Spoon the caramel dip over the warm apples. Don't stir it in. You want a gooey caramel layer between the apples and topping.
  • In a small bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, spices and salt. Work in the softened butter with a fork or your fingers until you have a crumbly mixture.
  • Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the caramel-covered apples.
  • Place the ramekin in the air fryer and cook at 350°F for 8–10 minutes, checking around 7 minutes. It's ready when the topping is golden and the caramel and apple juices are bubbling around the edges.
  • Let it cool for about 5 minutes because the caramel will be extremely hot.

Notes From My Kitchen

  • 1 tsp of pumpkin spice works in place of the cinnamon and nutmeg
  • There’s nothing wrong with drizzling a little extra caramel over the top before eating.
  • If you’re feeling extra indulgent, vanilla ice cream or whipped cream are wonderful topping adds!

Please trust me when I tell you to let it cool before digging in. The filling has a sneaky way of approaching molten lava temperature (just don’t ask me how I know)!

Can you guess what happened when I pulled the first one out of the air fryer? The smell was so wonderful that I ended up making another for those who absolutely didn’t want dessert that night!
